I originally had a different episode planned for today. Then I remembered it was New Year’s day, and that I was making an extra effort to start paying attention to date. Then I got to thinking about New Year’s eve parties and the adverse affects they have on some people. The wildest I ever get is staying up late to watch a movie. And the only reason I stayed up til midnight last night was to register for Brickworld. I expect to have a display for my work through Duckingham Design, as well as a display of vignettes & comics from The Brick Side. =)
Yeah, that’s my Rock Monster keychain. I’ve seen people remove the keychains to incorporate characters into comic strips, but I don’t recall seeing anyone leave it on. And allude to it as a cruelty. Poor guy. Maybe he got mixed up with the Bad Minifigs?
Sometimes you gotta wonder about these reality shows. Or you might just find yourself trapped on The Brick Side.
It’s been a while since we last saw what kind of trouble the Bad Minifigs had gotten into. Today they discovered one of the Christmas Presents we got our (almost) 3-year old — Don’t Break the Ice. (This is not a paid endorsement, though I must say we do have a lot of fun with the game!)
Anyhow, these minifigs are not having a fun day at all.
For those of you wondering about a beach episode in the middle of January–lots of people hit the Beach in January. They’re just not usually hitting the beach in Canada or Siberia. We were at Myrtle Beach this past week. It was in the 40′s & 50′s, so not too bad for taking a walk on the beach all bundled up, but definitely not too great for swimming or wading. My boys tried running around barefoot at the waters edge for a few minutes only to retreat shortly thereafter shivering and complaining they were cold.
In the meantime I was able to get a few shots in. This particular trip to the beach for Mr. & Mrs. Banter has one more episode in it.
If you’re newly acquainted with the series, a quick read of episode 75 will explain why the last two statements were significant, though I think the strip reads pretty funny without that, as well.
Oh, and a word about “knock your block off.” I stole that from Lucy — isn’t that what she’s always saying to Charlie Brown? But it just seems so fitting in a “LEGO setting.” =)
This is a follow-up to episode #115, and not one I had originally planned. I was taking a number of shots — the one from behind had worked, but I also wanted a couple shots from the front — which required me getting down in the wet sand — which I thought was pushing it in the 40 degree weather. Wasn’t expecting that wave to wash up over me. But when it was already washing over the backs of my legs, I figured I should start snapping pictures. I only got the one, and then had to work frantically to keep the camper, couch, and minifigs from washing out to sea. =)
Then I was very very very cold. And I do this all for you, beloved reader.
When I first snapped this photo for my “13 Frogs” project, I didn’t have any dialogue in mind at the time, hadn’t even thought about putting it into The Brick Side, just thought it was a funny looking shot. Then I got to thinking about how the frogs would want to change the temperature, it’s too hot, it’s too cold, it’s just right — much like Goldilocks and the 3 bears. Then I got to thinking all of them would have at least something to say. And it would be a progression. Then it occured to me how much they are like kids in the back seat on a loooong car trip. And it just all seemed to fit. And Spartacus had to do something significant.
After a long day getting knocked over by ocean waves, isn’t it nice to just sit down for a nice, juicy sirloin steak? Now that’swhat I’m talking about!
Unfortunately, the steak was a little too much for Mr. & Mrs. Banter to handle on their own, so I had to help them out a little.
This, of course, is an extremely self-referential parody of my ongoing parody of reality TV with the two Power Miner dudes. A parody within a parody, as it were, though I think the strip can stand on it’s own, as well, for first time visitors. Regardless, I’ve actually snapped the photo several weeks ago, but only had a vague idea that it was a parody of the other series — in f act, I did consider just posting it on its own without dialog.
And I really like how the green of the frogs contrasts well against the background of the chair and couch. Very cool.
Ah, there’s nothing like the refreshing camaraderie between a Sith lord and his apprentice. Darth Ludicrous: an unfunny man with sand in his boots.
This is another shot I took out at the beach a few weeks ago. All that sand was happy inspiration. Took a while to rinse it off all my LEGO stuff, though. =)
It’s been a while since we last saw Joe Jerry and his Superman petition for LEGO. You may have feared that Darth Ludicrous tickled him to death over the cape. Or maybe you wondered if he had given up. Wonder no more.
Unfortunately, he still seems to have a bit of a credibility issue.
Inspired by the sheer awesomeness of Spartacus, the frogs are seeking out how they to can become big and strong.
This episode is dedicated to my brother-in-law, Jon, an engineer. He’s also the guy who built this sand pyramid. And the moat. Good thing he’s no pharaoh. =)
So it gets difficult trying to find and film more and more “bad situations” that the Bad Minifigs have gotten themselves into, or been set into as punishment, so I got to thinking one day, “What if it was all part of the plan?” and “What would a staff meeting of the Bad Minifigs be like?” Here’s a look behind the scenes. =)
Can somebody say, “Merry-go-round?” I think these frogs are in for a big surprise.
Incidentally, that CD is a favorite of ours, Eine Kleine Kaffeemusik. There are 3 in the series. You can listen to samples or order on mulfingermusic.com. (This was not a paid endorsement — I just really like the music)
