This, of course, is a reference to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I’m thinking specifically of a line from the theme song used in the cartoon that started back in 1987 and ran for 10 seasons. I’m not sure if the line “heroes in a half shell” occurred in other variations (later cartoon incarnations, the original comic book series?) but if you caught any of TMNT for that 10 year span, you’ve heard the line.

The Brick Side: a web-comic for middle-aged, over-weight, karate-movie-watching frogs. And you!

My wife and I have 4 kids. So we’ve seen our share of babies and bottles and formula. Never saw a formula quite like this, though. Until now.  Mmmm…green.

Hmm. I guess when my daughters leave their dolls out, they are easy prey for the 13 Frogs. I don’t think they’re going to drag it back to the swamp, though.

Even little LEGO frogs have aspirations of what they want to be when they grow up. Now what do I want to be…wait, that assumes I’ll grow up someday. Hmm.

I have a friend who claims that when he was a kid, he wanted to grow up to be a firetruck. Not a fireman, but a firetruck. On a plus note, cybernetics had not yet come along far enough to grant his wish before he hit adulthood. So my friend is not painted red. Though he may, on occasion put out a “fire” or two.

Something about 13 Frogs and Teddy Bears. Not exactly the most appealing combination. But it might explain where stuffed animals tend to disappear to. Better check your local swamp.

Wow. What can I say — other than I am excited to have made it to another round number divisible by 10?  I took up @bourbonboy’s suggestion from Episode #100 — try to get all the major themes together. I didn’t quite get them all in — the Bad Minifigs are noticeably missing — but they’re in the middle of a long over-arching storyline. They didn’t want to be interrupted.

I also spent a little extra time messing around with the layout. I hope you notice this one’s a bit different than “the usual.” While I originally tried to have one format (one panel) it was extremely difficult (for me) to come up with a new setting every single say. On the other hand of that is the fact that creating multiple panels in a webcomic means each panel has to be individually planned and laid out. So a long time ago I gave up on trying to be consistent, and just stuck with creative. The main point of the comic is, after all, to be a variety comic, so why not have a variety of lengths and formats? Whatever the humor requires — let that be what dictates the paneling. Still, there is something to be said for discipline. As a matter of fact, I’m also plotting out a completely new comic strip, separate from The Brick Side (yes, yes, I *am* crazy) that would be a defined panel (3 or 4 blocks) and that had one long continuing story line. I haven’t decided yet if I would run both strips at the same time, or if I would go to publishing The Brick Side on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday basis and the new strip on a Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday basis. The second strip would live on its own url. It’s actually already bought and paid for, it’s just a matter of me posting comics there and telling people it exists.

Well, none of those comics exist yet, but maybe soon. Why am I blathering on about this? Guess I’m looking for some input. Or maybe it’s the coffee working.

When the cautionary tales your parents tell you all involve deceased relatives, beware The Brick Side!

When I first took these 3 photos I planned on spreading them out over a short series, but they all had essentially the same punchline, so I felt it worked a lot better to put them all together. Which makes for my tallest webcomic to date. Perhaps this one should be considered a tall tale. Or “tall tail,” if you really want to insult the froggies. =)

I took this picture back on “Bring Your Minifig to Work Week” then promptly forgot to post it. Well, that’s better than I did the year before.

I took part of my inspiration here from “fly, my pretties, fly” from the Wizard of Oz when the Wicked Witch is addressing her flying monkeys. And it’s always a lot of fun when the froggies have something to say.

The real question here is, can anyone tell what they just finished typing? Bwah ha ha ha ha ha! (no, that wasn’t it, that was just my maniacal laughter.)

If you’ve ever watched a single episode of Bob the Builder, you’ll understand today’s 13 Frogs tribute. My boys used to watch it all the time … then they got a little bored with it, but now my girls are really into Bob the Builder, and so the boys have been watching again, too.

Of course, since it’s the 13 Frogs, we have Spartacus to lead us along in our chores. These LEGO-built construction vehicles should be recognizable as 2 of the variations from a 3-in-1 mini construction set. And the sand … well, it was on loan from the ocean. =)

Could be bad medicine for the 13 frogs.
