Today’s episode was partially inspired by a fan comment.

Ah, there’s nothing like the refreshing camaraderie between a Sith lord and his apprentice. Darth Ludicrous: an unfunny man with sand in his boots.

This is another shot I took out at the beach a few weeks ago. All that sand was happy inspiration. Took a while to rinse it off all my LEGO stuff, though. =)

Joe Jerry takes up his Superman LEGO petition with … Darth Ludicrous?  How did he get back to “a long time ago” and how did he go “far, far away?” There seem to be a lot of Plot Holes in this episode of The Brick Side. Sounds like it could be a good candidate for a canonical episode of Star Wars. Hmm. Not that I’ve done a lot of Star Wars Plot Holes spoofs. Maybe I can remedy that in the future.

Anyhow, for those that noticed, yes, Darth Ludicrous lost his cape a couple episodes ago. Yes, Joe Jerry got it. Is the Universe any safer? Decidedly, no.

I’ve worked very hard at avoiding any kind of political statements in my cartoons, but the current debate over nationalized health care in the US plays pretty well into Darth Ludicrous’s story line. Regardless of whether or not you consider the current administration to be a new “Evil Empire” (per Star Wars and per Ronald Reagan’s interpretation of the last big “united socialist republic”), there is a lot of disagreement over whether the spouted rhetoric matches what appears in any of the five (or so) different 800+ page versions of the so-called plan. With so many pages in multiple versions of the bill, it’s hard for me to understand how any politician can (in good conscience) get up and definitively say “this is what the plan says.” Sounds like “reality check” has a very Orwellian 1984 kind of meaning nowadays.

Whatever the case, I certainly hope that we don’t have to find out what kind of “benefits” we’ll be seeing as a result of the bill passing. Or that we can all become senators and not have to worry about it. Ooh…wait…the Emperor dissolves the senate at the beginning of episode IV.  Oh well. Maybe we can all become stormtroopers. At least they get cool armor.

Whatever happened to Darth Ludicrous? Today we start to pick up the pieces…

All is not well as Darth Maul continues his training with Darth Ludicrous.

I originally had Darth Ludicrous’s line, and thought that was plenty funny. As I was getting ready to have a thought bubble of Darth Maul’s just filled in with question marks and exclamation points, it suddenly occured to me that just thinking about Darth Maul writing home to mom & dad was hilarious.

As soon as it occurred to me to juxtapose the LEGO Jester as an “evil” Sith Lord overseeing a young Darth Maul’s journey through the Dark Side, I couldn’t stop laughing. Expect this one to be an ongoing series.
