Why do we call things “puppies” sometimes? Weren’t there supposed to be 3 of those puppies? Hand me one of those puppies over there… Hey, try one of *these* puppies. It’s synonymous with “things” or “stuff.” Is it because we’d rather think of generic things in terms of warm, cute, and cuddly? Or are there a significant number of people out there whose reality is made up of … well, puppies?
