I’ve worked very hard at avoiding any kind of political statements in my cartoons, but the current debate over nationalized health care in the US plays pretty well into Darth Ludicrous’s story line. Regardless of whether or not you consider the current administration to be a new “Evil Empire” (per Star Wars and per Ronald Reagan’s interpretation of the last big “united socialist republic”), there is a lot of disagreement over whether the spouted rhetoric matches what appears in any of the five (or so) different 800+ page versions of the so-called plan. With so many pages in multiple versions of the bill, it’s hard for me to understand how any politician can (in good conscience) get up and definitively say “this is what the plan says.” Sounds like “reality check” has a very Orwellian 1984 kind of meaning nowadays.
Whatever the case, I certainly hope that we don’t have to find out what kind of “benefits” we’ll be seeing as a result of the bill passing. Or that we can all become senators and not have to worry about it. Ooh…wait…the Emperor dissolves the senate at the beginning of episode IV. Oh well. Maybe we can all become stormtroopers. At least they get cool armor.

Not sure what you’re talking about – nobody in the US has actually proposed nationalized health care. There’s also no “the” bill to debate either.
Where are these incoherent and farcically inaccurate potshots coming from?
Now if the UK NHS changed to doing Darth Vader style surgery, I’d probably jump into a lava pit!
Dan, do you even live in the US? As in the United States of America? This has been all over the news.
Yes, I live in the USA, and I’m acquainted enough with the issue to know what is and isn’t on the table. An actual nationalized system isn’t even up for consideration. The left did eventually prod a few Representatives in the house into putting up a nationalized health care bill for symbolic reasons, but there is no nationalized system being seriously discussed.
…now, there are a few con-artists on the far right trying to paint what little Obama is trying to pursue (he’s actually trying very little, nothing even remotely comparable to nationalizing anything) as something far more interesting than it is, but we’re all adults who are smart enough not to fall for pure BS, right?
What’s been all over the news is the angry disputes over the BS – the actual topics being considered by the government have received very little coverage. Truth be told, the difficulty in getting anyone in Congress to agree long enough to even put a serious bill together to debate has ensured that there’s really nothing to promote or argue against right now. Considering that they’re in recess right now, there’s really nothing else happening on that front.
So, Brett, where do you live? Rush Limbaugh’s basement?
HAHA! so true, so true. I’m suprized they didn’t just give him a band-aid. LOL
